STONEWALL DEMOCRATS ENDORSE JIMMY GOMEZ FOR CONGRESS

By: Jimmy Gomez

Today, the Stonewall Democratic Club endorsed Jimmy Gomez for the 34th Congressional District.

“Jimmy Gomez is a standout champion of LGBTQ rights,” said Jane Wishon, Political Vice President of the Stonewall Democratic Club. “As a State Legislator he has gone above and beyond to advance the mission of equality. His leadership has lead to major advancements for the LGBTQ community here in California and there is no one better to protect against Donald Trump’s agenda than Jimmy Gomez in Congress. We enthusiastically support his candidacy.”

In the California Assembly, Jimmy modernized birth certificates, by authoring AB1951, to allow same-sex couples to accurately record their relationship to their child. In other words, allowing two mothers or two fathers to be listed on a birth certificate accurately. He also authored legislation to protect LGBTQ seniors in residential care facilities by requiring administrators to go through LGBTQ cultural competency and sensitivity training.

Since 1975, Stonewall Democratic Club—among the largest Democratic Clubs in California—has been the home for progressive Democrats in Los Angeles who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and straight allies of the LGBT community and operates as an all-volunteer grassroots non-profit political organization. The first local chapter of Stonewall to organize, Stonewall Democratic Club takes on the fight for equality for the LGTBQ community.

Stonewall’s endorsement comes after Equality California—the nation’s largest statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization—endorsed Jimmy Gomez for Congress. They join a diverse coalition of support for Gomez’s campaign from leaders and organizations that voters trust like U.S. Senator Kamala Harris, L.A Mayor Eric Garcetti, State Senate Pro Tem Kevin De Leon, Congresswoman Judy Chu, Congressman Ted Lieu, Sandra Figueroa-Villa of El Centro del Pueblo, the United Farm Workers, Equality California, Planned Parenthood Action Fund and the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO.
