Los Angeles, CA — Today, the Sierra Club, the California League of Conservation Voters and the League of Conversation Voters (LCV) Action Fund announced their joint endorsement of Jimmy Gomez in the special election for California’s 34th congressional district, scheduled for April 4th.
“The Sierra Club is proud to endorse Jimmy Gomez to represent the people of California’s 34th congressional district, and we are confident he will continue to be a champion in the fight to protect their health and well-being,” said Kathryn Phillips, Director of Sierra Club California. “From protecting our state’s right to enact standards to safeguard our clean air, to ensuring our state’s natural beauty isn’t sold for a quick buck, to guaranteeing our clean energy job sector continues to grow, Gomez stands with Californians first.”
Gomez has a track record of standing with environmentalists and conservationists as a member of California’s State Assembly. There, he helped usher a number of bills, including AB1937 which promotes clean energy, SB32 which extended greenhouse gas emissions targets, and AB1550 which ensured more equitable distribution of the funds generated by the state’s cap-and-trade program. For his work, Gomez has received numerous awards, including the Green Leadership award from Green California and the Smith-Weiss Environmental Champion award from the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters.
“In the Assembly, Jimmy Gomez more than proved himself as a leader for environmental justice whose advocacy for his community doesn’t end with his vote,” said James Johnson, Political Director for the California League of Conservation Voters. “Jimmy is ready to take the fight to Washington to stand up to Trump and Pruitt against the assault on our clean air and drinking water protections. In a time of unprecedented attacks on the health of our communities we need a leader like Jimmy Gomez to fight for us in Congress.”
