Former Los Angeles City Planning Commissioner and candidate for the 34th Congressional District, Maria Cabildo, endorsed Jimmy Gomez to replace California’s Attorney General Xavier Becerra in Congress. She joins Vanessa Aramayo, Alejandra Campoverdi, Wendy Carrillo, Yolie Flores, Sara Hernandez, Raymond Meza, Tracy Van Houten and Tenaya Wallace in supporting Jimmy’s candidacy.
“As an Assemblyman, Jimmy has worked to engage residents in the creation of an Empowerment Congress,” said Cabildo. “The idea demonstrates a rare understanding of what it takes to engage residents in civic life. What we need now more than ever is to re-engage people in our democracy. We need a strong progressive voice representing the 34th Congressional District. In addition to being supported by groups that I care deeply about, Jimmy understands the importance of protecting Social Security and Medicare. I have confidence that he truly understands what is at stake for seniors in the 34th Congressional District and will fight to protect our social safety net. I urge all my supporters to vote for Jimmy Gomez on June 6th.”
Maria Cabildo came in third place in the crowded April 4th Special Election, receiving over four thousand votes. She received over 2000 more votes than her closest competitor.
Jimmy Gomez has been one of the most effective and progressive members of the California State Legislature. He has passed laws and carried bills to expand paid family leave, promote environmental justice, prevent domestic violence, protect Planned Parenthood, disclose money in political ads and stop President Trump’s anti-immigrant orders.
