By: Team Gomez

Los Angeles City Councilman José Huizar endorsed Jimmy Gomez for Congress.

“Jimmy and I work tirelessly to understand the needs of our constituents and deliver them results,” said Councilman Huizar. “As a State Assemblymember, Jimmy has never lost sight of those he serves. He secured resources to clean our air and water, open new parks, and fulfill our transit needs. I am confident that as a Member of Congress Jimmy Gonez will remain deeply engaged in the lives of his constituents and always keep their needs the top priority of his office. I enthusiastically support Jimmy, and look forward to working with him to make our community stronger.”

As a City Councilmember, José Huizar represents over 41% of the constituents of the 34th Congressional District. He joins a growing list of Los Angeles elected officials in supporting Jimmy Gomez to replace Xavier Becerra in Congress. This list includes Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson, and Los Angeles City Councilmembers Gil Cedillo and Mitch O’Farrell.

In the State Assembly, Jimmy Gomez authored and passed some of the most progressive on behalf of his constituents. His Paid Family Leave expansion bill was heralded by President Obama as a standard of excellence and his work on environmental justice secured his Assembly District (AD-51) millions of dollars in cap and trade revenue used to clean the local environment.

Jimmy Gomez is a State Assembly Member and former advocate for the United Nurses Associations of California. First elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2016 with over 86% of the vote, his assembly district encompasses more than half the 34th Congressional District. On June 6th, Jimmy Gomez placed first in the 23-way special election, earning over 28% of the vote – finishing over 10 percentage points ahead of the second place candidate. Jimmy lives in the Eagle Rock with his wife Mary, and dog Austin.
