I was first elected to Congress just 5 years ago. That’s why I was so shocked and disappointed when I heard what was on the racist recordings of L.A. City Councilmembers.
My heart was broken, as someone who represents the same areas as two of the disgraced city councilmembers, and especially as a new dad. But I’ve dedicated my career to bringing people together to work for positive change, as an organizer for a nurses union and as a Congressmember – and that’s why I’m taking action.
Congresswoman Karen Bass and I brought together civic leaders from across LA to initiate a plan of action that will help us unite, rebuild trust, and heal our city.
Our strength lies in our collective power and solidarity. We will be taking steps to heal our city by bringing together community organizations and partners to discuss how we can rebuild trust and reinforce equity in policymaking.
Here are some of the excellent organizations that have been fighting hate, building trust and reducing division for decades. Please consider supporting these organizations and their missions so our city and communities can come out stronger and more united than ever.
